hi,
not getting enough mpg (15-18) from my 2.0 petrol, auto box seems to want to change down very easily, dont need to give the throttle much of a boot at all! just wondering if it could do with an oil change or service? any thoughts on the matter that'll push me in the right direction.

if its not been done yes
including dropping the sump and cleaning the big mesh filter
you will find loads of gunk in there

The fluid in the auto box should be changed every two years according to the manwell
We get around mid 20's to high 20's from our 2l. we had the autobox fluid changed and mesh cleaned last year and it made for smoother changes (may have just been in my head). Sounds like it may benefit from a service, if you are feeling the need to be a bit heavy with the foot, which would cause it to change down..... if you are still having problems after that try dropping Alacrity a pm (resident autobox whiz

My 2 litre changes from 3rd to 4th before it should (IMO, too quickly), do you think changing the fluid and cleaning the mesh would help this?

assuming its the same box as 2.5td
then you can adjust the TPS sensor

Hi,
I bought a 2ltr petrol Mid October,bought from Wheelquick and assured all oils,(engine,gearbox,axle and any others were all replaced.)
I fill up to brim every time and work out mpg,and up to now im dissappointed with the MPG.....lowest 17.5 mpg ,highest 19.23mpg running round and 23 mpg on a run.The gearbox works fine as far as im concerned,changes up gears same as my previous two ,2.5 deisels did.But they returned much better MPG
However,that includes all this freezing weather we`ve had and me having to stop/start the engine to move the Bongo to give access to the garage (i back it up to the garage door every night for security)
We`ll see what its like when the weather warms up

it has been said on here that the 2 ltr runs cool agains the diesel, just wondering if the motor is running too cool,so as to stop the top gear lock up from coming in. try blocking part of the rad to aid warm up when moving,or a new fan switch may be needed as this chats to the ecu, and governs the g/box lockup temp.

This is the correct post here. Changing the oil, whilst always good to do, will not alter when the thing changes gear one iota as it is electronically controlled. Assuming the engine is producing the correct power (low power being the most common reason for late upshifts/early downshifts) then the TPS will need adjusting. I am assuming, never having seen a 2ltr, that the TPS is adjustable as in the diesel. Most are.wonkanoby wrote: then you can adjust the TPS sensor

sorry to be ignorant whats the tps -my 2.5 diesel suddenly doesnt want to change gear as it should i know it needs oil change and filter cleaned in any case but if its electronics that cause this it wont be the solution

Hi there,
I have a V6, the TPS is a shiny metal box on the side of the throttle body housing, rear of the engine, drivers side under the seat. It has a multiplug on the rear of it. You adjust it by slightly loosening the 2 bolts that hold it on and it can be moved slightly from side to side, mark where it is, try mid position first, if better a bit more in the same direction, if worse try the other way.

It is a different part number to the V6.
This is a picture of mine, it's the shiny metal part with the blue paint on it:

I have a pdf of how to adjust electronically with a multimeter, however trial and error is a good place to start as the one I have is for the V6 and may well not apply.
