CAR TYRES 225/45/18 ACCELERA PHI 95Y X/L 2254518

Post by janehancox » Tue Jan 25, 2011 7:32 pm

Hi,
Me again RX8 Alloys found a supplier at a good price for the tyres? for 225 at the front and 245 at the rear, hoping with someones advice that these are the right tyres that will go on with out hiting any arches...?
Do I need spacers or will they go straight on?
Cheers to all.....

I use acceleras and have for a while, but mine are 215's all round and at 36 quid each fitted, I am well chuffed ( just need my bongo fixed now) Interested in how you have such bigger tyres.

Do you have a 4WD Bongo? If so, you'll need different profiles for the front/rear so that the circumferences are the same.
Also, a load rating of 95 is too low for the rears and your insurance could well be invalidated if you fit them

Or the same size tyres front and rear so the circumference is the same. :D

Hi, the only reason for the two types of tyre size is only that this is what is on the wheels at the moment, so what size tyres should i use what would you guys use?
does the x/l give the correct loading?

cheers for your advice so far....

oh and it is a v6 aero bongo not a 4wd so i dont now if that makes any difference.?

What load rating do i need for the rears..?

I can only speak for myself, but i have always used the same sized tyres all round for a number of reasons... I can keep a compatible sized spare wheel for use no matter which tyre gets a puncture. And i like to rotate my wheels round twice a year to even out the tyre wear. (not as critical with you having two wheel drive) I found that bongo's with a slightly larger rear tyre had a tad more understeer than bongo's with the same size tyres all round.

I have 97 load 18" tyres on mine, which at the time of purchase cost around £45-£50 each, they aren't top notch michelins, they are mid quality japanese tyres branded "triangle". I have no complaints about them, and they are very good all round tyres. Mine will be due replacement this coming year, but i've had a good 2 or 3 years out of them thus far. :D

I see the point of all the same size for puncture reasons, and for this reason is why I have 4 the same. Given the anti- spare love I normally see here lol, I've not looked at the size tire for the supplied spare.

Surely a modern equivalent would suffice for tires of different sizes?

*edit*

Forgot to say, I was under the impression, given all tires the same size, that on a 4WD the wheels are swapped corner to corner as opposed to front to rear same side on a 2WD.

Right well I phoned the guys I always use and they quoted me the following, 225's at £49.00 fully fitted, i.e, balancing, valves etc..and 245's at £58.00 fully fitted. He did ask however why you didnt have one size all round. Dont know how far away you are or how price compares but I have been very happy both with their tyres and service, if you want more details, let me know.
