Steering Creaking

Post by thedogsbollox » Sun Jan 30, 2011 2:31 pm

I have a creaking/soft knocking when turning the steering. When reversing slowly without turning it knocks lightly. When going forward it don't. When going forward slowly and turning the steering from side to side it rattles when being turned and stops when not. Tried full lock in a carpark to see if it was the CV joints but they seemed ok. I can feel the thump through my left foot on the footrest.
Where should i look first guys?

under the feet is the anti roll bar and brackets, they are hard to detect as faulty in the early stages of failure. for the price, ive been told gen mazda ones are approx£5 each + £5 for each rubber, you need 2 of each. there is a quick test/cheap fix,try removing one,and wrapping the rubber with a slice of bike inner tube and refit, not a long term fix, just to test if its worn. soak the bolts the day before to stop them snapping off.

Had a complete new set fitted 18 months back Ady. Don't sound the same as that.

im stumped then, did you buy cheap ones, there is nowt under your left foot apart from the wishbone rubbers at your right foot. could it be transfering over through the panel. if so it could be drop links.

try squirting things one by one with wd 40,then test.then try another bit.

Had the droplinks replaced at the same time as the ARB bushes. I do remember not seeing a speed bump a while back and hitting it quite a thump. That was about 2 weeks ago. Would this have damaged any of these?
