Tyres?
I see that some people fit 245/45/18's tyre's ,do these fit all-round without wheel arch scrubbing?

Re: Tyres?
Hi Stevie, after the winter we have just had up here in Scotland my next set of tyres will be all season tyres such as Vedestein Quatrac 2's or 3's similar to those Scanner uses. I can't see any suitable all season tyres the size that you are looking for but I believe that you can get Vedestein's in R17's. Me I would rather be safe than flash.

Hi Tony,
I think Stevie means all round the van,not all seasons.

Re: Tyres?
I believe (from what Russian Bongo owner DemonAV has said on here about their habit of fitting oversize tyres) that the first bit to get scrubbed when v. large tyres are fitted is the stays for the front bumper, when the steering is turned hard over. But, he says, these stays can easily be cut away with no real detriment to the bumper. The usual disclaimers apply mind you!
The tyres you mention don't sound too different from 18s mentioned on here before (though I don't really notice such posts as I don't have 18s). Might be worth having a search to see what tyres others report having (on Mazda RX8 alloys for example).

Hi Stevie,
Have seen 225-45-18s not 245.
You could do a mock up with a bit of something stuck on the tyre tread IE cardboard (to give the same dimensions)and give the wheel a spin.
Cheers.

Re: Tyres?
I am aware of that. It is just that Stevie did not mention what type of tyres that he was looking to buy. My opinion is that if we have a few more winters like the last two up here in Scotland then we should be looking for all season tyres like Rod uses, I could not see any all season tyres available in the size that Stevie was looking at.think Stevie means all round the van,not all seasons.

Re: Tyres?
Yeah I meant front & rear, was just thinking of which alloys to go for, the wheels on the van @ the mo are M& S tyres so should be ok for the forecasted snow.
Cheers Stevie

Tyre that are good for Mud are usually quite wrong for snow and vice versa, Mud tyres are designed to shed mud, Snow tyres are designed to hold onto snow.
Mud tyres have quite a stuff compound to keep the shape of the 'knobbles', Snow tyres are a softer compound, and stay soft at lower temperatures.
So Marks and Spencers tyres are good for not a lot.
Or , as a non driving friend used to call them, S&M tyres!
