Diagostics help please !

Post by slow_n_low » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:07 pm

Is it right the bongo cant be put on a Diagnostic computer ? all the garages ive tried dont know how to fix my fault even a bongo repairer has no idea and never come across this fault before, they said its probably a simple one but to find it will cost a fortune :(

Not many places have the right interface to connect a computer to the Bongo, however the error codes can still be read, there are a couple of Factsheets on the Club site itself which describe how to read the flashing Glow plug or Hold light to get the error code and to look them up.
Diagnostics: If your glow plug light is flashing, it probably means there is an engine fault. Here's how to diagnose the problem.
Hold Light: Is this flashing? Want to know what it means?

If they don't know how to read these then I think I might be a bit concerned with the Garage being able to put the fault right anyway, as they don't seem to understand Bongos!!

Its not flashing, its a prob ive seen when searching through forums but never seen the cause posted.

It starts up perfect, and runs perfect around town etc, but if i go on a run of say 40+ miles down country lanes or dual carraige ways and have been doing 50ish mph and come to a roundabout or junction and slow down it will cut out or go to cut out, i have to really concentrate and get into neutral to keep the revs going, when im normal speed again its ok.

Like i say ive searched the forums and seen some peeps with the same type of fault but they dont seem to post back what was actually wrong or the cause if they got it fixed.

I thought those symptoms were caused by an air leak in the fuel system, or fuel pump seals - see http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... mit=Search

Thanks for reply, ive had a read of all those and tried the fuel cap thing too and did no good, ive had the bongo in a normal garage who cleaned the banjo filter and changed diesel filter and still no good, he also checked for air leak and said there wasnt one.
The bongo garage havnt come across the fault before and just passed me on to a specialist they use, i booked it in and went there, the ignorant guys that work there with the attitude of disinterest wanted me to leave it, that put me off right away, i explained to find the fault it needs to be doing the prob which needs a long drive which i had just done and which they also advised on the phone. They said cant do anything for 2 hours we are too busy, then they would have to drive a minimum of 40m then try find and fix the fault while i wait, as i was 30 miles from home wait where ?! all at 30 odd quid per hour etc.
This is a weird prob me thinks and needs somebody with compitance to do it and that can keep a time if booked in and a smile wont go amiss too :D
Nobody local ive tried have even heard of a bongo lol.

Hi slow_n_low,

It might be worth having a look at the tank filter and inside the tank itself for any foreign objects floating about.
Have you replaced the fuel filter lately,if so it would be worth checking the seal and seat.

Sometimes these problems could be the Injector pump itself, worn pump losing vacuum.

Best of luck.

Had a new filter put on at a garage and it was a hassel for him to change as the thing was on real tight.

I would suggest that you give Adrian at Japan Direct, Bury (0161-763-3003) a call. He knows Bongos inside out so if he can't fix it I doubt if anyone can.

He should be fine for that, especially if you give him a public thank you on here afterwards. Adrian is the real deal when it comes to being a helpful guy. Tell him Mike O'Neill said to call and he can give me a good slapping  when I'm over there next. 8)

PS - even for him, diagnosis over the phone can be tricky. But I'm sure he can make a suggestion or two for you to try out
