Rust above rear bumper

My Bongo has suddenly showing some alarming paint bubbling on the side panel above the rear bumper. It's not on the wheel arch but a few inches further back.

Can anyone advise on the best way to have this repaired? Would it be best to get someone to fabricate and weld in a new patch?
How far back do new wheel arches reach? I have heard that VW T4 rear wheelarches fit.

Any advice would be appreciated

funnily enough, mine is at Campercraft the moment and has just been waxoiled inside that compartment. They put a tube in through various holes behind the rear speaker/below window area and through the tail light. Going to pick it up tomorrow.

Take breathing aparatus and a warm coat. at best you will be driving home with the window open

Is that right that VW T4 arches fit because i am doing mine shortly.I was going to use the transit arches but they they look a bit short at the back and the arch isnt the same shape. I have seen T4's on the road and thought the arches looked longer.

OK i have a theory...?!!! Cuz i have a similar problem as you have described. Not on the arch, set back where the bumper butts to the body panel.. But i haven't had the chance to investigate yet...

Now just a thought.. If you like to rear screen wash & wipe like me, maybe a leak is dripping down & helping to cause this???

If yer looking at the link? On the Bongo pic about 1/3 to half way from the rear wheel arch lip to the light cluster edge. The actual arch on mine is good!

That's interesting as I am a bit of an obsessive window washer! Like yours, my wheelarch is fine, it's further back on the crease with bumper. I have noticed that the wheelarch liner underneath isn't screwed in and has come away from the wheelarch.
I bought some waxoyle and a pump today and will give the inside of the panel a coating...it's something I used to do with cars years ago when they all used to rust out, but haven't needed to since, until now!

Its held on with a scrivet centre & a screw from the bottom..

I'm also wondering if water ingress from either behind the light cluster lens or door runner towards the back isn't the cause?? http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html

this is the same problem as the whel arches, as the area you describe is the same as the wheel arches, excess water will run either forward to under the rear aircon/heater matrix, or backwards towards the the warren of sections that trap and hold the water. Keep saying it, the only way to get into all these spaces is panels out, and with combination of probe and normal, blast twice as much underseal/waxoyl as you think you need into the various spaces and members. another place to go that ir in the same area as you describe is under the rear bumper, both inside and outside of the rear near and offside panels (nearside bit harder as the rear exhaust box is in the way of the inner!) there are 2 blanking gromets that should be removed and again the interior spaces probed and coated. Just throwing a coat of underseal/waxoyl on th bottom of these cars is no where near sufficient to protect them, so when you take your car to be done make sure that the interior spaces are included in the price and service.
