High tyre pressures (50-60 psi)

just had 4 new tyres fitted today but forget to check on what pressure needed before going so the tyre place did 50 front and 60 rear. Back home and quick search on here shows 40 is what people use. Driving it back it wallowed less but wondering if anyone else runs that high a pressure? Maybe tyre place just based the pressures on what they'd put in a commercial load lugging van. The tyres are Yokohama Geolandar G012 AT-S 205/70-15

I think a lot depends on the tyres - van tyres, I think usually 6 ply, take higher pressures. I run mine at 40 all round

i run 8ply van tyres at 50 psi, spot on.

The trouble is everybody has different ideas about pressures for their tyres, over inflation can have a worse effect than under inflation and lead to loss of control of the vehicle, this would be looked at by any accident investigation team and could be deemed a contributing factor. It is vitally important for safety and fuel consumption that tyre pressures should be spot on, tyre suppliers should have recommendations for the correct pressure of the fitted tyre in relation to the vehicle, golden rule ..if in doubt ask.

I have low profile tyres fitted to my bongo running at 45PSI, i'd suggest checking the wear on the centre of the treads after running at high pressures after a while. Good for fuel economy though! But at the expense of grip.

I run the same sized tyres and have 36 psi in the front and 40 psi in the rears - with no wallowiness - but I also have Mazdaspeed suspension all round.

I've always run 34/32....tyre wear perfect, grip O.K., wear minimal.

Ride must be rock hard at 50+ psi isn't it?

Only had Bongo few weeks so not sure what 'normal' ride should be, but certainly felt the road more than with the original tyres/pressures. It's all relative and our comparison is our other cars (MX5, Ibiza TDI Sport) which are a lot firmer. I think an email to Yokohama (or Mazda) may be the best route, and drop them down a bit in the mean time. thanks for your advice

My Bongo feels potholes whatever I do, but is otherwise pretty good. I usually run at 40psi on the rears and 36psi on the fronts. I have 17" wheels, 55 depth, 225 width I think.

response from Yokohama is 32psi, but they also 'strongly recommend using the vehicle handbook recommendations or if that is not available it would be best to contact Mazda directly'. So will call Mazda when get a chance, but given they are all terrain tyres i reckon the Yokoma pressure would be right for off road and using 40+ for motorway/general driving would be about right
