Re: Best gearbox oil please?
Somebody recently recommended Millers. I used Comma from my local motor factor - grade is Dexron 3 or equivalent

Re: Best gearbox oil please?
The latest oils exceed dexron 3. Some have friction reducers added to prolong gearbox life, also cold and hot performance is supposed to be better, quicker to change into 4th gear from cold and better hot weather protection. Not that we get any really hot weather! I have just had the oil in my gearbox changed to help with diagnosing a fault and it is a higher spec oil. Shifting is a bit smoother than before, you can hardly feel 2nd to 3rd! I think the one someone recommended to me was Millermatic dtf or something along those lines...

millermatic ATF DM far exceeds dexron 3. ive used it on 3 motors and its really good stuff, good service/change intervals too.
be carefull not to get millermatic ATF UN, thats dexron 2 equivalent.
take the sump off though, (gasket is reusable if your carefull) and clean the filter out,and blow the oil pipes out to the rad, this way you will get a full oil change.

I just looked at all the ATF on the shelves until I found one that met Dexron 3 spec.

Good call on the oil, that is what we use here.Northern Bongolow wrote:millermatic ATF DM far exceeds dexron 3. ive used it on 3 motors and its really good stuff, good service/change intervals too.

The comment about blowing out the oil pipes isn't correct however. Sorry. In doing this all you are doing is removing a little more oil (from the cooler), you still cannot get the oil out of the torque converter so at best you will get about a 2/3rd's oil change at a guess. Changing the oil twice would help if you really wanted to get a total oil change.

That's what i do now... I buy twice the amount of oil needed, use the 1st half as flushing oil.Alacrity wrote:Good call on the oil, that is what we use here.Northern Bongolow wrote:millermatic ATF DM far exceeds dexron 3. ive used it on 3 motors and its really good stuff, good service/change intervals too.
