scavenger fan light not working

Post by tug » Sat Feb 19, 2011 12:20 pm

I've just purchased a Bongo and the scavenger fan light has started flashing. Sometimes it comes on when the engine is warmed up and sometimes it doesn't. When it does come on there seems to be a loss of power. The mechanic says the fan is working ok.

Any ideas?

It's also used as the engine preheat light that comes on on a diesel when you turn on the ignition which you have to wait for it to go off before you start the engine (yellow/orange with a coil symbol).

In the warnining lights section of the manual it is has a second entry as the scavenger fan warning light.

I've also heard that when it flashes it is an engine management light.

Sure it is a scavenger fan light? Not got one myself and never heard of anyone else having one either. My scavenger fan comes on when stopped after a long fast run and is heard but no light. Just a thump and whoosh from under the seats.

Could this be the sediment light or some other warning ?

Its the glow plug light. Does it flash in a sequence?

There's a fact sheet about flashing glow plug light here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/member ... ostics.pdf
Also loads on the forum if you search for "flashing AND glow" - without the inverted commas 8)

It's for the diesel vehicle. According to the warning lights section of the manual the light (yellow/orange with a coil symbol) has two purposes. 1/ The 'preheating display light' which comes on initially to tell you to wait for the engine to warm before starting. 2/ The 'scavenging fan warnining light (diesel only).

Neither mentions flashing, which is what mine is doing.

Not sure if this is the same thing as the 'glow plug' which isn't mentioned in my manual.

It's the same light (glow plugs are the pre-heaters) - see my post above for fact sheet etc 8)

The forum is free, but you need Club membership to get at the factsheets, the club (not web based) existed before the forum and they get there fix of news etc. by post, and pays for the some bits of the National bash's and that sort of thing.
