My roof won't go up!!!!

Post by bongobazza » Tue Mar 01, 2011 7:08 pm

Greetings everyone!

I am back again to call on your collective wisdom.

I have today gone to raise the roof on my AFT Bongo and, for some reason, it has not gone up. I parked up, put the auto gearbox in park, put the handbrake on and left the engine running. I then pressed the button 'open' button to raise the roof. The 'beep beep' of the roof alarm started and continued but the roof does nothing. There is a slight click as if it is going to rasie but nothing happens.

The roof was last raised about a week ago and there were no problems then.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be?

I don't know if it has anything to do with it or not, but today I washed it with a jet washer. The roof was closed so I dont see how that could affect it but I thought I had better mention it.

Thanks in advance.

I had this problem. Had to take to Adrian in Bury where he got the roof unlocked (needs a hoist to raise it) and found one motor was duff and the mounting bolts had separated from the roof. No idea how it happened, but he got it fixed and put a spare 2nd hand motor in.

Now its gone again, on the other side, and Bongo is grounded as its stuck in my drive with the roof up until I can find time and help to get it down, secure it and limp over to Adrian again.

Still love the old girl though - just the inevitable problems with a 16yr AFT.

Yep, the hand brake light does come on.

I have read some previous post on the forum and it looks like the first thing to try is the switch contactors and the fuses.

I recently (6 months ago) had a refurbished roof fitted by the same guy I brought the Bongo from. So I don't think it will be the motors. Although, I have come to realise over the past months that his work can sometimes be a little 'slap dash', so I think another thing to check is the wiring plug from the back of the van to the motors and look for any loose or disconnections.

Any more advice would br greatly appriciated.
