Wahey - another happy ending. Well done dudejed1y0da wrote:Update 2: wouldn't start again today so performed diagnostics 101 (ie wigglin all the pipes) and found the return pipe was boned). So i chopped of the end and put a new clip on and hey presto - problem solved : )
Lessons learned? - wiggle, poke and prod all the associated bits : )

glad your sorted

Update 3:
Ok - wouldn't start this morning so am now going to crawl about again underneath with a good torch and see if i can find any cracks in the pipes.
Then i'll think about the fuel pump (any ideas where to get hold of seals etc? - usual suspects - bongobits/bell hill?). There aren't any decent bongo friendly garages here on the isle of wight so worse case is i will have to make a trip... : (
also - how easy/not is it to recon the fuel pump 9ie pull it apart and replace the seals etc)? - looks like its a bit of a mission...

they are a regular bosch part so any diesel specialist
then what you need is a skinny mechanic with small hands to reach rear plate

pm sent as to where to source the 3 piece seal kit.
Re: Can't start, won't start...
UPDATE 4: ok - finally took it to Discount trucks (great bunch by-the-way) and they had it for 3 weeks (did a complete major service and a few other bits and pieces). The air in the system was caused by fractured fuel lines (the metal ones that go into the injectors) - apparently 90% of fuel related probs discount trucks rectify on bongo's are the cracking of these fuel lines. Its a hard one to check for, but my symptoms (leave it for 1-2 hrs then try to start it and it will fire for about 3secs then die, then turning it over for about 1 min and it will start to fire and then run real lumpy for 20secs or so and then be fine) are endemic of this particular problem.
Oh yeah - also had a slightly leaking O ring , but that wouldn't cause air to get in the system unless it was completely gone.
Hope that helps : )
