Indicators/hazards not working!

My guess will be that they have done something in there which has left the indicators shorting to earth

That'd be quite something for someone who claims not to have touched the electrics at all.

I had a bit of a rummage this afternoon but I need to get the Bongo on level ground tomorrow (not our 45 degree drive) and start taking things to bits and hopefully something will come to light (if you'll pardon the pun!!)

I also need to get more 10 amp fuses

I reckon the fuses will keep blowing till the fault is traced....!

Hello Alison. If you suspect it may be related to the towbar, Al suggests checking the wiring on the towbar socket. You may find that when it was disturbed, one of the wires has worked loose and is touching something (shorting out.)

Or, you can undo the 2 screws on each rear light. Knock the lights sideways so they come off the body. Disconnect the extra wire (related to the towbar electrics) that you will see connected to the top bulb (possibly connected with a scotch lock ype of fixing). Put a new number 2 fuse in. Do the indicators work? If they do, that does suggest that the towbar socket is the problem.

When they say that they "rested it on something" I wonder if they rested the tip on the ground and the other end was held up by the wiring ? In which case they may have pulled a couple of the wires out of the screw connectors. The sockets look like this from the rear;

If you get down by the towbar, you'll see that the cable goes into a plastic cover behind the socket, normally its easily removable or you can drop the socket itself off the bracket to check the wiring. Thank you all for your invaluable help. I had a good look around this morning and decided it was more than I was prepared to tackle, or indeed more than I was competent enough to deal with. They'd somehow managed to trap a wire behind the bumper and, presumably, split the sheathing over it so it was shorting.

Fortunately the auto electrician I use was back from his travels today so he sorted it out after lunch for me.

When I spoke to the body shop yesterday, they said that if it turned out that the problem had been caused by something they had done, they would pay. So, one invoice going off in the post tomorrow
