diesel leak :-(

Post by M 80NGO » Mon Mar 07, 2011 7:20 pm

I've noticed that there's been a couple of spots of oil under the bongo when she's parked up over night just recently, on closer inspection and a good old taste test its actually diesel, the reason its black is due to it getting contaminated on the way to the ground, tonight after cleaning the old girl i hoiked up the drivers seat and ran my fingers around the pump but there's no obvious leak but the side of the engine block is damp and where the leak is hitting the ground is right below the pump, i've read this topic : http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=47355

But was wondering if there is any one in the cambs area who has had this issue and has fixed it themselves or if they know of a bongo friendly garage ?

Thanx Pete.

what you need is a skinny mechanic with small hands to reach rear plate

There's a couple of garages recommended by members here http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... 29&t=16160

Thanx mr CB thats most kind but the distance defo puts the mockers on it, but tbh i just read the link francophile posted and i may give mo's motors a call for 2 reasons, firstly they're local to me and secondly my brother in law runs the place

You might also check the return pipe - it has a small length of flexible hose in it and mine had split. Easy to replace.

if the leak is on the block then theres a chance its the front nose seal, this is a bit more of a job. and may need the pump off to do it. this front seal hardens with age,but is usually accompanied with weird running, and maybe stalling as its sucking air in.

Thanx for the info guys i have been recomended a diesel pump specialist in cambridge who has done the pump seals on a bongo in situ but is also able to remove and refit if needs be, once the seals turn up from Bell Hill garage i'll get her booked in, its defo the seals as you can feel where its wet under the pump and its just leaving a couple of spots when she's parked up, the running is fine no problems there.

try just nipping the 2 bolts up on each side,or one side if you have fat hands  .
the 2 at the back are best nipped up from below(tray off).
they are only squash flat seals, so this may be enough to slow the leak.
just done my spare pump, its a lot easier on the kitchen table, sorry the wifes coming,i mean the work bench.

Its hardly leaking NB so i'll just get her in as soon as the seals get here, i'll tighten the 2 that can be accessed from above tomorrow. as for the kitchen table if i had a pound for every car thing that the wife doesn't know about i'd be a rich man
