auto gearbox

I had a a pipe leaking oil from the auto gear box and the bongo would not run. I had it fixed, but it will not go into reverse and therefore not run. It will go into forward. My mechanic is puzzled, any ideas. pauline

Strange. Does it have no reverse hot & cold? Is your mechanic sure the oil level is correct? Every week I get people assuring me (including garages) that the level is correct only to find (as in a case last week with an Audi from a garage) that it is 2.5 litres low. It must be checked with the engine running in park. I can't think what else can have happened unless it was driven whilst slipping due to very low oil level caused by the leaking pipe, if that is the case then it may have a clutch badly damaged which is a much more serious issue.

Running them low on oil is never good but providing you stop if the gearbox starts messing about often as not you will do little or no harm. Keep going & you will need a rebuild I'm afraid.
