wiper working washer not

Post by fieryjack » Mon Mar 28, 2011 12:39 pm

The rear washer has never worked since I bought my Bongo although the wiper does. Now the front washers are not producing even tho' they're topped up. The wipers again are working fine. Having checked the fuse diagram it looks like the wipers and washers use the same fuse so I'm assuming that's not the issue......any help would be most gratefully received.

The two electric pumps are built into the washer container at the front, get someone to operate the switch when you have the bonnet up and listen to see if the pumps operate, in which case check for blockages in the pipe runs. Otherwise follow the wiring back, the other possibility is that the impellers have come off the electric motors so they spin but no washer fluid is pumped;

The pumps are replaceable but I think you need to remove the bottle to get at them.

if you open the rear tailgate,look for the pipe coming out of the body,not the back door, gently pull the gromet out of the body,about 5-6 inches down the pipe inside the body is a one way/non return valve.this gets blocked,remove this valve and clean it out.
dont drop the pipes into the body or your stuffed.
there may be a similar valve in the front pipe but have never needed to search sorry.
to remove the washer bottle,remove the grill/nearside headlight,then unbolt and check it.
the motors to the front and rear washers just push into the bottle body using rubber doughnuts so are easy to service and replace etc.
hope this may help.

Thanks for the info, I'll have a shufty later, maybe tomorrow, as my biorhythm chart is telling me to take it easy today and just drink Holsten with Bombay Mix.
