Fitting middle row of seats

Post by Stirling Mess » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:25 pm

I have just picked up my first Freda, and am very pleased with it. The previous owner had been using it without the middle row of seats. He said he would fit them before I picked up the van, but the seats were upside down in the van with four bolts, the runners, and leg covers in the boot, so I'll have to sort this out myself tomorrow. Is it pretty obvious how it all goes together? If not, coudl someoen run me through it please? (Sorry for such a numpty question.)

One other thing. I noticed when I got home that a "Hold" light had come on after I had been waiting for my wife to get in from teh other car. It went out when I turned the engine off and back on again, but I wondered what it meant. Could someone please enlighten me?
Many thanks.

The hold button is on the gear shift , you must have switched it on by accident, turn the engine on then push the button at the side of the gear shift, it then should turn off.
The hold button is quite a useful tool it holds the engine in a lower gear, ideal for going down a steep hill, saves the brakes.
Lost without my Bongo.

Ah, ok thanks. I have been driving for 30 years and this is the first time I have driven an automatic, so I am utterly clueless. So nothing to worry about then, which is good. Thanks for the quick replies.

Middle seat should just sit on the runners, bolts in, clip on covers and away you go.

Bear in mind the seat is HEAVY, get someone to help lift it.

If you have full length runners..? This may help..? http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html

The seats with the table on the backs go in the middle row.. The link diagram looks back to front..?!!

Thanks for that. I'm not sure about the runners. Mine's a 1995 model. Didn't they have shorter runners? Anyway, the diagram will help.

By the way, I want to fit the middle row backwards so that I can fit a table between them and the back row of seats. I take it the procedure is the same, just with teh seat reversed.

Some had flip up & to the side back seats mounted to the wheel arch & shorter runners in the middle... If your runners run the full length in the back that link should do you..!

If not then... http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... mgno=.html

Mine has the split rear seats that fold up each side, so this diagram is probably the one I should use. Thanks very much for your help.

Yep, though same principle on mid seats...! Lots of stuff in converting Bongos to camper van section on the seat turning thing.. I have a standard set up! From memory 17mm for the four seat bolts..?

All sorted now, thanks. Wasn't too bad, and will be a lot quicker next time!
