Tyres ...

Sorry if you guys are tired of tyres but for a non-tyre guru it's a complete mine field!

I have got winter tyres and I want to leave them on the wheels so I have purchased a new set of steel wheels and have been looking for rubber to surround them...

Here are some questions I can't find answers to, the type help doc is full of opinion and I would prefer someone in the know to recommend something ....

1. Can I use van tyres?
2. With a 2WD Bongo is it OK to just go for the same size all round?
3. If I go for 215/65/15 all round is there clearance in the front arches?

Are these rated OK they look pretty good for the money ...

I have been using 215's all round for the 8 years I have had the bongo, no probs at all, started with Nankangs and now use acceleras, good tyres and at £38.00 fitted (40) in another place,local, lol. They are 100h rated as well.

same size all round, yes
front clearance fine on 215/65/15

min load rating 92 front, 96 rear so 100 all round is fine.

I prefer to spend a bit of money on tyres as they're your only contact point with the road.
You could ask a tyre garage which fits a lot of commercial vans what they recommend with
above info in mind.
Bongo weighs +- 1800kgs for reference ( Transit etc ).

ive just fitted the tyres mentioned to the mrs's bongo,good budget tyre. but there are better.

My Bongo came over from Japan with 215's all round. So it is not just us Brits who are changing things a bit for convenience.

Our old Freda with alloys had 215s all round but I have noticed that out here in Portugal your tyre sizes are on the registration so it looks as if I am stuck with the Mazda spec.

I certainly had no problems with 215s all round

215's it is then thanks ... i might go for those acceller ones but it feels like I am being a cheap skate, i have read a bit about them some call them ditch finders others say they are great - sometimes to much information is the worsed part!

Well...i don't know about you, but if you're going camping, and using roads that are a little bit less than perfect to get to the site , you stand a risk of naffing your tyres...so...why buy expensive???...Tyres for sale in the UK must meet certain standards, so a cheap tyre must still comply... If you want to mess up some nice tyres, go ahead...I buy cheap stuff...but then they are cheap potholed roads over here...the roads are like cart tracks...just what you drive on if you're looking for an out-of-the-way campsite!

Well I went for the Accelera XL 215/65/15 100V's and they seem great so far - let's hope when its raining they are not ditch finders!

Now another question….. any ideas from you knowledgeable lot what pressures I should run?

With the appaling state the roads are in nowadays, i seriously doubt any tyre would survive to the point of wearing out anymore... I'd go for the cheapest mid range tyre i could. At least then in a few months time when you have to start replacing them from road damage, you haven't lost as much £££'s as you could have if you'd bought a top notch expensive brand. Maybe van tyres could handle more of a battering? Possibly

Having some trouble balancing the accelera's, tyre place reckon the tyres have a high spot! He showed me the wheels on the balancer as I went back to complain about the initial balance and one was out, he re-balanced it and it's better, but still the rumble and slight steering wheel shake at 60 - 75ish. I hate that!

Of course the dealer told me the tyres were rubblish but as I didnt buy from them I sort of expected it. Anyone else had this trouble?

are you sure the wheels are right

that the centre bore matches the lug and its not rellying on the nuts to centre it

They are original steels, I got them used from 321Away and they look pretty good, any ideas how I can tell? Its funny you ask because I just took 4 alloys off for that exact reason, hence the disappointment getting these balanced ;(
