Tyres..again.I've read..

Post by twidds » Mon Apr 11, 2011 1:40 pm

All the fact sheet etc but quite simply I would like to know if on my 4WD friendee
195/65R 15 91H front
215/65R 15 96s rear
are ok and will not knacker the 4WD. Previously I believe it had the 215's all round. Just I've noticed more noise now and i would say twitchier steering.
Thanks #-o

Your front tyres should be 70 profile, not 65.

You will do severe damage to your transmission by running with these tyre sizes, as your front tyres travel less distance than your rears for each turn of the wheel, the noise is BAD!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but there's not really an easy way of putting it!

The fronts should also be at least 92 load index, 91 is too low.

Who fitted the 195/65s?

As the others have said, you could well wreck your viscous coupling with those tyres on :( You have a 4.26% difference, in the circumference of the wheels, between the front and back tyres - more than around 1% difference will cause damage
Why didn't you stick to 215s all round? - lots of people do :?

Show them the plate inside the passenger door frame - it shows the correct tyres to fit

Well you go back and tell them to take them off again and put the proper size and rating on or you'll report them to VOSA.

You should also tell them that you hold them responsible for any resulting damage to the transmission.
