hi i had a problem with my leasure battery wirlng and it shorted out causing it to melt i disconected it as soon as i seen the smoke and have re wired the whole slit charger leasure battery to the zig unit and all seems ok but my speedo has stopped working my temp gauge shoots off the scale as soon as the vehicle is startted and the fuel guage which normally sits at 3/4 when full has went passed the full to the top as well when i drive it the hold flashing light comes on after about tthirty is there a common relay or could this be a bad earth or worse

1. Do you have TWO fuses in the split charge relay set-up, one near the S/B in the wire going to the relay, and the second near the L/B in the wire going to the relay ? These fuses need to be rated at about 30 Amps and the wire needs to be at least 4mm², the split charge relay needs to be rated at a minimum of 30 Amps. These figures are the minimum.
2. The wiring from the L/B to the Zig and to the existing fuse panel, this also needs to be fused, close to the battery, 15 Amp is about right and the wiring to the existing fuses and the Zig need to be at least 2mm² and could afford to be a lot thicker if possible especially to the Zig unit as it is probably several metres away.
3. The faulty displays indicate that you may have damaged other wiring in the "F"ront loom which runs under the dashboard from side to side and up to the front of the engine, do you know the cause of the shorting, if so let us know and we may be able to work out which wiring looms are involved, but without some description of what caused the problem I will be making to many guesses

Re: burnt out wiring
GREAT problem is sorted sortof after most of yesterdsay and an early start have trackedproblem to the printed circiut board at back of instument panel the earth strip is burnt out i conected a wire to the little scew below the break and earthed it and all is working perfectly i even think the fuel gauge is more accurate than before. I think if memory serves me right u can get a repair strip for these just a little strip of thin copper with a sticky back ??. Also the whole split charger will need to be rewired no fuses and wire way to light plus it wasnt wired right or routed properly the routing caused the problem but at least its all repairable and at no great expense
. just a lost bongoing kitesurfing weekend
thanks b
thanks b
Re: burnt out wiring
Sounds like your getting there, but you do need to identify what caused the short in the first place.
I haven't seen the stick on track for may years now, but there may be a supply around, Ebay is probably a good source!. The problem with that PCB is of course that its flexible and you will have fun soldering to it - in most cases you won't ! The best solution will be to pickup the earth track at a screw and then continue it in wire going to all the locations that have been damaged and then back to a screw, or pickup a new panel which are available and you could get the Mile rather than the Km version.

Re: burnt out wiring
Will have a look about see whats available but the thin wire i have bridged the damaged area with seems to be working. The problem was caused by the routing of the lb wire to the zig they had run it under the hinges of the passanger and drivers seat so eventually they got nipped i had moved the ones from the passanger side i noticed this before but not the driver side it would have been fine if they had fused the cables but they were connected direct to the terminals so thats a job for this week and check zig unit to to make sure its wired ok to but that waters under the bridge now least i know its giong to be right now.
thanks again b

Re: burnt out wiring
You can get the "stick on" copper track from a Dolls house shop (try ebay) you will have to fill the gap and solder both ends to the PCB
This might work
