transmission strainer.

Post by nicstrike » Sat May 07, 2011 8:22 pm

just had the transmission fluid & strainer changed (what a difference) and looking at the "old" strainer , its a shame to have put a new one in really .as i didnt do the job , and not knowing what state it would be in , it seemed prudent to get a new one. however i kept the old one & i'm sure i saw somewhere (though i cant find it) that they can be cleaned out? i'm thinking along the lines of cleaning it up & putting it by for the next change as a staight swap again. i would imagine a good swill through with a drop of petrol should do the job?

Most people just clean them and re-use them 8)

You can buy anything you want for the tranny BDC, but that seems expensive to me, I don't pay anything like that much for them. Be careful if anyone changes one, there are a lot of variations of this filter, many look the same but are not. The main difference is in the depth of the square pickup spout. Put one on that is too short & you could have all sorts of odd things happening that wont do you trans any favours.

A proper job would be to fit a new one. When cleaning you cannot be sure you have all the contaminants out as you cannot see inside it.
