bongo colours - base or metallic?

Post by nigelgibson » Tue May 10, 2011 9:36 pm

hi - can anyone tell me which bongo colours are metallic and which are solid colours? a mate is after buying a cheap bongo [ with usual dings/scratches/dents/rust] and wants a solid colour so he can paint himself. is the burgundy solid/metallic? a list would be ace !

I had to respray my rear bumper in metallic silver and it didn't seem any harder to do than a solid colour. I guess it might be more costly as the metallic has to have a 2 pack lacquer sprayed over it, but then I reckon that makes it easier to get an authentic finish anyway (plus maybe more durable). 8)

Yes, mine was solid white and had no lacquer as standard (AFAIK). I had the lower half sprayed in Silver Stone and lacquer and its a better finish.

Possible idea would be to spray the lower half in a contrasting colour if its a metallic?

All cars now whether solid colour, metallic or pearl are clear coated. An easy way to tell is to get some polish or compound on a cloth and polish an area, if colour comes off on the cloth it is straight colour if not it has clear laquer on top.

I think the only solid colours on bongo's are black, and white, the rest as far as i know are all metallics, and metallic mica's.
