Exhausts -- Petrol 2.0 litre

Post by Lemain » Thu May 12, 2011 11:35 pm

Sorry if already covered elsewhere, but I have searched here with no luck. The exhaust expansion box (silencer) on my Bongo has developed a leak at the seals from the pipe to the box in and out. I am hobbling around slapping Gun Gum on at the moment and we have nearly two thousand miles to drive very soon, back to Spain. The problem is that I cannot let a dealer inspect and then wait for several days to get the part in....I really need to be able to phone an exhaust centre with the correct part description and then arrive for fitting while I wait. Is there a part number of the original or is there a generic that could be used or welded into place by an exhaust centre? I have no proper tools to hand in the UK so I cannot DIY.

Your best (and probably only) choice is to go to a stainless steel system maker and get a new SS system fitted. From reports on here the cost isn't too way over the top or even much more than a full mild steel system and it should last for life.

The only places you MIGHT get original, pattern or S/hand bits off the shelf is one of the usual suspects - Wheelquick, Bell Hill, Allans, Ian Taylor etc.

You can forget most Motor Factors or places like Kwikfit.

Part No's available on the schematics on lushprojects here - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/ .
What year is your bongo? this shows the parts for 99-01 - http://www.lushprojects.com/bongopartsm ... o=.html#11
Click on the descriptive index on the left, match up the drawing no & get the part no - simplez
Any Mazda dealer should be able to get the parts, but maybe not to your timescale.

If you went to Kwikfit you would end up getting the new exhaust section and......................in their opinion you would also need new 4 new tyres, brake pads, shock absorbers and anything else they could think of. Cynical - who, me. :)
If I had all the money I ever spent on my Freda ............ I`d spend it on my Freda.
