Surely this is THE last part that possibly could break Chris? Isn't the rest of the bongo brand spanking new? (relatively?)

It must shortly be in the 80% replaced range, pretty soon the only original bits will be the number plates!! 8)

Cheers to Muz, spoke to Mike Snr this morning, they only have a 2WD in which could apparently be modded to fit but that sounds time consuming & costly.

Thanx to YBB for Ian Taylors number, left a message but he's not got back to me so far.

Will continue the struggle tomorrow.

Its been a month now & no further down the line, all the usual sources are either out of stock or wanting seriously stupid money for an un-warranted unit. (although Ian Taylor STILL hasn't got back to me . . . .) :(

Have now decided to go with a rebuild.

Fingers crossed I won't miss the summer this year.

Chris

Ian always benefits from a bit of chasing up, it part of his way of working  . My bongo was ready to collect for the best part of week and he couldn't find my number until Carl sorted it. Best to ring him and see what he can do.

Just spotted this one Chris. Sorry to hear you're having problems. Al has had several Bongo gearboxes rebuilt and it's a reliable option. Your gearbox specialist will be able to strip it down and see anything/everything that needs to be replaced, and should also guarantee the job, so you'll hopefully be worry free again for a long, long time. 8)

Why is nothing with these bloody vans ever straightforward. :(

Heard back from AutoBoxMan today. No idea what techie details he rambled at me but the bottom line is that its Goosed and will cost £1200/£1500 to put right.

Back to Square One.

Oh dear..... I just don't get prices anymore.

I have a unconverted N reg Tin Top, in A1 rust free condition, rust free & waxoyled, full service history from new etc etc etc and it's only worth £1800 ~ 2000 on a good day!

That's about right for the job fitted MM I'm afraid. Does that price include vat? It's a lot of work to rebuild one of these & yours sounds like it has had major geartrain failure so will need everything. We always fit new solenoids on a rebuild so it ain't a cheap job. Plus of course you will want a proper warranty & I'm afraid this all has to be paid for.

I put that eBay up link yesterday but it was removed by a mod as it goes against Ian's rules apparently. Anyway if it disappears you will find it if you do a search on eBay.

Thought I'd put this one to bed as all is now well.

A 2WD gearbox was sourced for £45 thanks to the magnificent of the BF Support Group Here.

It involved a little work to change a couple of parts from my old 4WD box to make it fit & work properly but 2000 miles on, the end result has been a magnificent result. Total cost of job was a touch under £350 including fresh fluids & filter. =D>

The only differences when driving are that I no longer get a scrubbing of the front wheels when on full lock & I seem to be getting about 40 miles extra to the tank. That may be more down to me being a little more gentle with the right foot of late but its an improvement all the same.

Big thanks to all those that helped, once again BF proves itself to be an invaluable resource.
