Where do I buy one, what price should I be looking at,how big does it need to be and just exactly how does it work

And finally do I really need one

It's a vacuum pump, you stick the pipe down the dipstick hole to the bottom of the sump and then operate the stirrup handle a few times, the vacuum and then a syphon keeps the oil flowing up out of the engine. You need to pump several times during the course of the operation as the vacuum gradually falls, but it's a super-clean way of doing it. Then tip the contents into one of your empty 5-litre oil containers and sling it in the bin. Or take it to the council tip to dispose of properly if you're greendandemann8 wrote:....and just exactly how does it work![]()
38 oil changes later I'd say you dodandemann8 wrote:And finally do I really need one
Wish I'd known about the 6.5l when I bought mine (although I got mine cheap 2nd hand so musn't grumble). For what it's worth, the inconvenience with the 6l is minor (just tip some into the waste container half way through the job) so if there is a substantial price premium then I wouldn't fuss over it. The real advantage is just having a Pela, compared to the normal oil change process.Muzorewa wrote:Should be ok, personally I'd go for the slightly bigger one because 6 litres is only just big enough in theory, you'll end up having to do it in two stages which detracts from the ease of using the thing in the first place.

Plural of Muz is Muz. Like deer, sheep, bison, salmon etcmissfixit70 wrote:(sp?, what is the plural of Muz?)
As Kirsty has implied, you ought to have a waste container to pour the oil into from the Pela anyway, whether you have the 6l or the 6.5l, so the only irritation is having to pour a little off before all the oil has been pulled into the Pela. For a £20 saving, I can live with that (must have some Scots blood in meThe_Gordons wrote:Came across this post just as I was planning on doing an oil and filter change for the first time on the Bongo myself. Have now ordered myself a Pela but being a scotsman I went for the 6L version. Besides I have a drainer can kicking around the garage from doing oil changes on a motorbike.
