mmmmm.... Did your garage sniff test the motor before coming to that definate conclusion?jutwit wrote:ive just got my freeda back from the garage, it went in cos i thought the exhaust was leaking by the manifold again, the good news is its not, but the mechanic reckons the head gasket has gonebut ive not lost any water and it hasnt overheated, he has come to this conclusion cos ive got oil leaking from somewhere, which he reckons is the head gasket? i thought the head gasket kept water at bay and not oil? but im not a mechanic, and he reckons the smell is the oil being burnt off as the engine heats up? so what im asking is, is he right? is there some common oil leak on them, ive got no oil patch on my drive though, but he did show me the oil on the block and there is more on the drivers side than the passengers and its all low down, on the level where the fuel pump is, nowhere near the rocker cover where i was hoping, and there seems to be quite a lot. but on the passenger side there is some oil by the rocker cover so that needs to be addressed anyway, and also the oil is still oily coloured no water in there, its a 2.5 diesel n reg by the way.

What symptoms made you think the exhaust manifold was leaking in the first place?
