Yes, that's correct! Diesel smoke test is their concern here.scanner wrote:SFAIK the diesel smoke test that is part of the MOT is the same as an opacity test. Whereas petrols undergo a CO emissions test, which tests the Lambda sensor operation - I think.missfixit70 wrote: A lot of us blank them, with no obvious adverse affects, mine always get a "fast pass" on the emissions test (don't know offhand how that compares to an opacity test) when it gets MOTd (helped by runnning on veg oil). The air inlet manifold is probably full of gunk due to the egr, can only be an improvement IMO, on the WLT engine it's basically an afterthought to meet more stringent Jap City running emissions limits IMO. Mine is copmpletely removed by blanking off where it exits the turbo & blanking where it enters the air inlet, as well as blanking off the end of the vacuum hose aswell, also means you then have a couple of spare vacuum solenoids if/when one of your fast idle vacuum solenoids fails (usually the front one)

Get it blanked then
Loses a bit of weight from the bongo too if you can remove it
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Re: another looming head job - Canada
I was unsuccessful getting the cracked head repaired here - too awkward a fix!
I did order a new built head complete w/head set, seals, belt, cam, etc. for $420GBP + $83GBP shipping.
From the same eBay supplier [they are in London]; will ship Tuesday next week with a new water pump $29GBP.
So, what is left are hoses, SS clamps, stat, tensioner, filter kit, AND A TOW BAR KIT WHICH I NEED TO PULL OUR RV TRAILER and/or ATV's. I am still locating an online supplier for these items. JAS has everything, but their site got hacked, must call them today!
I'll keep you posted; but it may be another week or two before I get this Bongo story back on the road. Out first camping road trip is scheduled for June 3rd, our 27th anniversary married by the way! I will need to purchase another tow bar at the breakers for our 1998 Mazada MPV to do this trip. Hopefully, Miss Bongo [a.k.a. 'Bonnie'] will be less cranky on the next trip.
Thanks again for the ongoing support...
Cheers,
Dave

Re: another looming head job - Canada
Glad your half way their Dave, ref the stat, most of us here in the Uk have come to the conclusion that the genuine Mazda one is worth the extra £10 as it seems to work more efficiently over a longer period than the cheaper copies so food for thought.
Also the lower temp stat for the fans is worth replacing also, just to make sure the fans kick in when they are supposed to. I alsi found that the Mpg went up as well after replacing this. JAS also sells them.
Happy anniversary by the way
Regards Wayne

Hi Wayne; thanks for the adivice all of which I ditto! In fact I was considering ordering both the genuine stat [same reason you point out] AND the temp sensor control switch for the fans! At $60 CDN, a fair but necessary expense. I'll try JAS tomorrow via tele...waycar8 wrote:Glad your half way their Dave, ref the stat, most of us here in the Uk have come to the conclusion that the genuine Mazda one is worth the extra £10 as it seems to work more efficiently over a longer period than the cheaper copies so food for thought.

No, but now I know what FUR reFURs to.
We label that as 'RMA' here in Canada; or Return Merchandise Authorization.
