Ok
Read the various other posts, very useful thank you. My problem is that when I press the switch I'm not even getting a beeping. Fuses checked (2 and 4 from left middle row). No handbrake light on dash so might be the switch under centre console? Is it obvious or what does it look like?
Thanks.

Sounds like a handbrake switch to me. It's pretty obvious, attached to the handbrake lever itself - it is the only wire attached there.

Often the switch will work after it's been undone, removed, cleaned up a bit, and re-attached.

Sorry, i meant to say, that's the connection under the centre console... from memory there is a spring/plastic assembly that opens and closes as the handbrake is applied/released... Look near the base of the handbrake for a small assembly with a plug/wire going to it.

Nice and easy, just what I like. That has done the job so thank you.
