Chevron Branded Engine Oil from Costco

Does anyone have expereince of the Chevron branded Supreme Motor Oil that Costco sell. As I am due to change oil soon I was looking at the 25L drum of 5W-30 that they are selling for £42 including VAT.

On the drum it states the following:

Suitable for use in turbocharged and non-turbo charged passenger car engines requiring ACEA A5/B5 and API SL/CF.

A Synthetic engine oil for cars and light vans including high performance vehicles fitted with turbo-charged multivalve engines. Intended for engines that are designed to be capable of using low friction oils.

Just wondered if anyone else out there was using this and had some feedback. I also noticed that they do 10W-40 by the 25L drum as well.

I use the Chevron oil 5w30 and bigdaddycain in our bongos, and Bigdaddy uses it in his focus as well. so no problems, and its a lot cheaper.

Our bongo's warranty runs out soon and we're thinking of using oil too.. any tips and advice would be great.. you know my paranoi... worried I'll do something wrong..

I know suntan oil is my expert area (before you get in there ;0) ), but they're talking about engine oil, not cooking oil lol
Have a friend who's a mobile mechanic who uses costco's oil who recommends it, will ask 321's oil rep about the spec

Yo, 321 oil rep about the spec take the right step not cooking breakfast when put to task on an oilchange that will last cuz da interval goes too fast
This blast comes like the task set for a hero in a Ulysses adventure into the unknown, sown what you reap if you buy too cheap & pray the grade my engine keeps,
but I’m getting deep. we talk a 3000 mile till the next change? Or is that way deranged Wid da Chevron brand? Juian. I think yo understand.

And reading that, it looks like its quite high spec

The only negative i could find "All specifications prior to CH4 are now obsolete and although suitable for some older vehicles are more than 10 years old and do not provide the same level of performance or protection as the more up to date CH4 & CI4 specifications.

If you want a better more up to date oil specification then look for SL, SM, CH4, CI4"

just spoke to oil rep and that spec is absolutely fine, its slightly lower than 321 use (but he has to say that he's a rep!!) but they have their oils and lubes "made", so its a thumbs up for the costco oil

The oil company have said that oil quality/components has changed a lot in recent years and that 3000 mile change is unrealistic and should expect easily double + that from a decent brand oil

Thanks for the feedback. Good to hear the people out there are using it. I'll check what standards the 10W-40 complies with next time I am in to see if it is CH4 or CI4 however given that CH4 was introduced in 98 and I have a 97 Bongo then my assumption is that CF is ok for the age of vehicle.

Can't remember the price of Magnatec. Think it may have been around £27 for 4L but then again I could be completelly wrong.

I can see the 5w30 shouldn't be a problem, but doesnt bigdaddycain block the filter, even if you only put half of him in each of your Bongos?
