Air Con Re-Gas?

Post by Nogob » Mon Jun 06, 2011 6:56 pm

Hi, I wonder if anyone can advise?

The recent spell of good weather has prompted me to flick the air con on and it seems a little bit weedy to me?

So, my question is, do I just drive in to Kwikfit or similar and get it re gassed or is it a specialist job on the Bongo? Does the fact that it has front and rear controls make a difference?

Any thoughts or experiences anyone might have most welcome.

Thanks.

Personally I shall avoid Kwik F*** until the day I die. They screwed mine completely but - of course, they didn't charge me for the three months of grief & subsequent bills to get it sorted. :(

Best take it to someone who knows Bongos with an A/C recharge facility or someone local who understands how air con works. KF tick neither of those boxes.

the recon is a all in one under the bonnet
Kwick fit did my last bongo but others have had them refuse as its not on their system so don't know how much to put in.

armed with the correct stats from this forum I would use kwick fit again if I could not find another specialist for the same or close money

MM beat me to post, you take your choices (I would advise listening to MM rather than my experience)

Hi, when you have your air con re-gassed it should first be Vacuum tested for leaks from any of the system components, and then re filled, 950grams with the twin [front and rear system], if everything is ok then be cool in the heat 8) .

Regards.

I believe my local Kwik Fit machine had no manual override to set specific measures so they filled it as a Ford Ranger which pumped less than half the right amount in. With a depleted oil system as well, a few seals dried out & it cost around £250 to sort in the long run.

Just my personal experience of course, but take care with the Supermarket Auto chains.

We often don't fit into the Common Denominator they appeal to.
