New gearbox needed?

Post by neepboy » Sat Jun 04, 2011 8:23 am

Hi guys it's been a while...but under load the box drops into limp home mode with the hold light on. resets when switched off.
I changed the ATF fluid and took the sump off, to find a fair amount of metallic sludge, cleaned everthing and reassembled as Haynes likes to say..moderate improvement but still doing it...is it time for a new (2nd hand box)?

Any recommendations where to get a box, also any fitting tips?
she's a 2.5 Desiel 2wd, on an N plate.
thanks

yeah cleaned filter, unbolted it and flushed it with derv before blowing it out with compressor and leaving it to "air" for a bit before refitting.

Before changing it was above the mark (but it was difficult to get a consistant reading)
After changing it was slightly below.
There was about a third of a jam jar of Grey/Brown sludge with metallic shiney bits in the sump, never opened an auto box before but guessing this isnt good.
All info very welcome!

You need to go to the members area & read the factsheet about reading the codes, only then will we be able to help you. Changing the oil, whilst good practice, will have no effect whatsoever on the flashing hold light as that is reporting an electrical concern. The Bongo's crude gearbox electronics cannot report anything else.
