Auto trans fluid problem !!!!
My garage say they cant find out what auto transmission fluid to use on my 95 2.5 diesel Bongo, can someone tell me what to use as I now have to buy some and take it to the garage. Even Mazda couldnt tell them........and is there a filter they have to change and a gasket if so where do I source these?? and what do I ask for.
Thanks very much

Re: Auto trans fluid problem !!!!
Dexron III ATF fluid, anything up to 7+ litres depending how much you get out, this thread (one of many on the subject if you do a search) may help - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=30096 or there's a factsheet in the members area I think.
Some people change the gasket, but IMO (& many others) there's no need, it comes off cleanly & is not under any major pressure, nobody I know that uses the old one has ever had any issues with leaks etc.
There is a filter to remove & clean, you can replace it if you want, also make sure the pipework up to the oil cooler is clear.

Excellent thread !!
I was contemplating doing mine, but the only place I could find that did the gasket wanted £80 for it and the thought of cutting a new cork one...well.
After reading this post a gearbox oil change is on my "to do" list for the weekend, no pela pump though, so it will have to be the old "undo slowly over a big drip tray" routine.

You've just saved £80 by doing it yourself - go on, treat yourself to a Pela.

Same as Kirsty say's Dexron 111
As for price PM (Geoff) Alacrity he'll let you have a cork gasket for £8ish.
I haven't got a "Pela" or the like & it was a long messy job,so if you can afford one,buy one.

Re: Auto trans fluid problem !!!!
Reusing sound gaskets was common practise as a marine engineer, TBH I'd prefer to re use the original (or obtain an original, sure someone got theirs for £20 -£30) than a cork one, but that's just my opinion.
Don't forget a Pela pump can be used to change engine oil too, it will suck the sump dry, all bar a couple of dribbles, making that a much easier job, as well as the fact it can be used to pull a vacuum & bleed the brakes, great bit of kit

I'd agree with you re the price
Be good if you could get a definite price on the "Farpak" one it it's like the original? but it's still better than the £80 he was quoted
Always worth trying Mazda dealers, most of them have access to a lsit of available import spares (similar to lushprojects - http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... =3&t=34517 ) & prices often aren't as bad as some of the "specialist" bongo suppliers, though you may have to wait a week or 2.

Re: Auto trans fluid problem !!!!
I shall let you know a price - although I think the moderators won't like it so it will have to be by PM. I got sanctioned last week for putting an ebay link to a Bongo being broken that I happened to spot.
I would post a picture but as this forum doesn't support pictures (anyone know why, its so frustrating, all other forums I frequent do) I can't, & as I loose the will to live with Photobucket etc. you will all have to take my word or get me to email a piccy.

This is the one I found, unbelivable !

As for a pela pump, i think i will have to invest in one, once I have, someone will be getting a PM.
First I have a few more jobs to do...this Bongo is turning out to be a bit like Triggers broom !!

Need to find yourself a garage that knows what they're doing with bongos by the sounds of it, there's a list in the members area.

Re: Auto trans fluid problem !!!!
i find it best to remove the glow plugs when the engine is cold, but they have been known to be a pain to get out sometimes.
sounds more like they took a look at the job and decided it isnt as easy as some motors are.

Have you tried Picasa for photo hosting? To link to a pic does mean you have to copy & paste then delete the extra / irrelevant HTML, but you can link directly to different resolutions without re-saving the originals like on photobucket. Works well for me.I would post a picture but as this forum doesn't support pictures (anyone know why, its so frustrating, all other forums I frequent do) I can't, & as I loose the will to live with Photobucket etc. you will all have to take my word or get me to email a piccy.
