sudden loss of power

Post by georgeb » Fri Jun 10, 2011 9:31 pm

Hi Everyone
After leaving home and travelling about 2 miles Bongo suddenly reduced speed to about 6 mph so stopped within a couple of hundred yards.
Putting in park and revving there was a knocking noise and black smoke from the exhaust.http://www.igmaynard.co.uk/bongo/forum/ ... ost&f=3#On switching off for a couple of minutes and restarting everything working fine.Drove back home ok.After a few hours took her out for a short drive about 5 miles and took her up to 80mph no problem.Any ideas what it could have been its a 2.5 diesel auto 1998 4 wheel drive

dunno:?: maybe a temporary fuel starvation problem

if you were revving it hard and black smoke came out that wouldnt be unusual from a diesel engine IMO, just clearing out the mucky carbon build up, perhaps that was the problem and you cured it :?:

sometimes i give mine the full beans just to clear out the muck

other than that i dont know

Yes ADY it is with the winter pack and it may have been switched on.Do you think that may have been the problem?

Sounds like a very likely suspect to me  If it's not something you normally use, may be a good idea to disconnect the switch?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.
