Post by Travis » Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:17 am

Hi

I need to top up the oil, not sure what was used at service, will 10w-40 be OK? or should I buy some 10w-30?

Many thanks

If you know who serviced it give them a ring if not I have not heard anything to say you can't mix on top ups.

I have in the past.

10/40 Is the most common oil used generally, so the chances are the bongo has 10/40 in it anyway. Westonwarriors suggestion on contacting the dealer/mechanic is a good idea if you are a little apprehensive about putting "any old oil" in.... It's refreshing to see this being asked about :D It's a different story with the coolant though! Don't mix that stuff! [-X [-X Not on a bongo! :?

10w-40 is fine as others have said. 5w-30 is the recommended viscosity according to some sources but since you are only adding 0.5-1 litre to 6 litres (15%) it is quite academic really. Better to have enough oil than worry about what oil although personally I prefer fully synthetic. Just make sure your top up oil is of good quality.

On the other hand why do you need a top up? Should you be looking for a leak?

No top up needed now for a year between services, just being cautious as planning a trip away

Cheers everyone
