Only 4 litres of oil when I did oil change!!

Post by Iwannabongo » Sat Jun 11, 2011 8:18 pm

I have just used a pela pump for the first time to change my oil, but only got just over 4 litres of oil out.
I then opened the sump plug expecting another 2 litres of oil to come pouring out, but nothing.
I have now refilled with 4.5 litres of new oil and checked the dipstick which now reads as full.
As I have read all over the forums that normally it takes over 6 litres, confused is an understatement :? :? :?
Any help is much appreciated.

or the wrong dip stick has been fitted, they all look the same from model to model (all mazdas not just bongos,) but are not.
it has a code letter/number stamped on the yellow plastic handle.
which model do you have.

Hi all and thanks for your input.
I did not change the filter, but from what I have read it should still take 6 litres+
I have just checked the yellow handle and see no code letter or number. I must admit the dipstick length was the first thing I thought it could be.
I don't expect you all to rush out and measure your dipsticks on a Saturday night  but mine measures 584mm end to end and 515mm from end to the stopper. Sorry, but at the moment I am P***ing myself while typing this
If anyone can get back to me with their lengths it would be much appreciated.
thanks again =D> =D>

As the oil light doubles up as a low level warning, if it only had 4 litres in and the wrong dip stick it would show on the warning light, unless its removed

what engine do you have? petrol 2ltr or v6 or Diesle?

Ignore all the above suggestions.

The 2 ltr petrol engine only takes 4 litres of oil ,including the filter, its the 2.5 diesel that takes the larger capacity.

I've had a few drinks but been out & measured a spare broken dipstick i've had in the garage that a mechanic replaced when he broke it 3 years ago... (Long story.)

This is all approximate... I've ad a few & my wife reckons i've had enough now...

This tape measure would not stay/clip open... :?

But i got a spare tape measure too...!

About 455mm?? (Allowing for the bend in the stick.) This is for a 2.5 diesel!!!
Cheaper by comparison to a race horse...

Ahh, mine is a 2.5 v6, which probably explains the difference in length, much appreciated though for your drunken time

I have a 2.5 v6, so I presume this is the correct amount, yes?
I have spent a long long time today getting very annoyed with my pela pump and building a mountain out of my gravel drive to use as a ramp, so I could get underneath to undo the sump. #-o
thanks

to be honest I have no idea of the capacity of the v6 or 2ltr but having just got a v6 would be interested in knowing

I just though that everyone was thinking it was a diesle and it may be different or the wrong engin completely.
