Fan sensor & TPS

Post by Alacrity » Tue Jun 14, 2011 1:46 pm

Forgive me here if I am going over old ground, but am I correct in thinking a) the fan sensor is the bigger one on the offside of the head halfway along b) the fans should cut in if I pull the plug off with the engine running c) with a Mason fitted the fans don't cut in until the un-damped guage is nearly at the H??

I have done a search on here & I think I have got it but just wanted to be sure. I was queuing on the M8 at Glasgow last week & the Mason started chirping but the fans weren't running, guage was showing about 3/4 travel. I turned the a/c on to be safe & the guage dropped but from what I now read it is normal for it to go quite high in this configuration. Kirsty mentions 92 deg on the top hose for the fans to kick in.

Just changed the TPS, that was fun - the nut on the (what I take to be) stop solenoid would not undo without the innards of the solenoid turning  so I ended up cutting the wire & having to remove the solenoid to do it on the bench. So much for a quick job. Running again now.

Now all I have to do is find my radio remote that got accidentally knocked into the gaping cavern & has now disappeared. Its probably on the undertray lying in the diesel that leaked from the pump when the sol was out!

the temp is 96 deg c, but the rest sounds fine, with a mason fitted the first speed fans come in at around the line just before melt down (h).
the mason is usually set just below the trigger temp,so when the mason goes off (set at 4.5 or maybe 5) you look at the reason why then shortly after the fans cut in an remove the heat down to just above 12 oclock.
this fan switch also does the glow plug monitoring, and the cold start solenoids, so an important bit of kit.
