Funny Button !

Post by hershambongo » Thu Jun 16, 2011 10:19 pm

Hi after 4 weeks of owning our Bongo / Freda, I have found a strange button next to the ignition, its the same circular switch that we have in our company vans that turns on the airside flashing beacon when driving at airports ! cant find a purpose for it in the Freda ? The little led light on the switch doesnt come on, I was hoping that it was some sort of ejector seat for the Mrs or would operate the front machine guns, rear oil slick or flick the number plates around, but it doesnt seem to do a thing ! was it an old alarm system ? Any ideas please. :?:

Many thanks HB

PS This forum has been a god sent for us new chums to bongo life !!!! ive not polished, cared for and loved a motor so much since I lost my beloved Porsche 944 2 years ago and the Fredas more fun to drive ! Well it comes close, nearly, not quite, :^o

What Blobber said  not fitted as standard in Japan, but necessary to be legal in the uk. Should work when the lights are switched on (telltale light working is an mot requirement), either a bolt on dangly hanging below the rear bumper, flush mounted in the bumper, using one of the reverse lights or using the spare reflector in the light cluster.
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Just using my psychic powers here . . . .

you have an Imperial conversion

The switch is to the right of the steering wheel and is a small rocker switch with a red LED

Switch on your lights and flick the switch and you'll find that your right hand reversing light lights up red.

Am I right?

 :o  :?

Funny you mention that with the reverse lamp bulbs...! I recently changed mine to LED's & the filament bulb replaced on the left was like this, but still worked..!

Thought it may have had something to do with the extra reverse lamp i fitted?

But it has its own power supply triggered by that side of the loom...

If you have a separate switch for the rear fog light.. Could mystery switch in question be an isolator switch for reversing sensors triggered only in reverse??

Still not found out ! driving me mad ! There again with a Jap manual & paperwork there must be many secrets the Freda holds ! Just seen on e-bay control for auto sliding door ? I know my door has a soft electric close ( after a few days of slamming it shut ) but is there a full auto close ?

Cheers

Dave.

PS any tips for cheap awning ?

If it does exist on a Bongo? (As a pimp?)
Not without some serious engineering to the door itself.. There is no power to the door what so ever once the door is open away from the door contacts.
