Woo-hoo !
Roof is now working :)

There were two problems -
first was low volts caused by a very poor connection

The roof still did not release, eventually I pushed my arm into the gap towards the front and found something I could just get my fingers around. Then with engine running and switch pressed I pulled back (not pushing up). The roof lifted fine and has gone up and down without any help from me thereafter.

Thanks for all the suggestions !

You said you haven't got a leisure battery, however you also said you have had BOTH batteries changed. If you have 2 you have a leisure battery! The starter battery is the one on the left as you look under the bonnet, and the leisure battery is on the right, which is usually bigger then the starter battery.

Could be a twin starter battery cold climate set up?

Probably is 8) Certainly two batteries does not mean that one is a leisure battery #-o

That's right.
Previous owner (my sister) had batteries replaced so that it could be MOT'd (I agreed to buy it sight unseen on condition it came with a new MOT)

If I had known batteries were dead I would have preferred to have had the opportunity to fit a LB instead of the twin starter setup.
Never mind - it starts nicely now anyway :D

Just use the secong SB as a LB, not too difficult to convert the wiring, especially if you give Martin (Willinton on ebay) a shout for one of his kits.
