Small puddle from front of van

Post by Mike&Katie » Wed Jun 29, 2011 3:36 pm

Hi All,

Just took my Bongo to the local supermarket for lunch (5mins away tops), as I was walking away from the van I noticed a puddle under the van (in-line with front axle, dead centre). I put my fingers in the fluid and as far as I could tell it was clear and didn't smell of anything but I do have a cold.

Checked the expansion tank and had more fluid than normal but put this down to expansion, no obvious leaks that I could find in either the bonnet or engine bay.

I drove it back to work and have been keeping an eye on it and it hasn't leaked again, AC was not on (gas is empty).

Any ideas why it could start to leak then stop?

Mike.

Are you sure it was not just water dripping down from the drain hole in the middle of the gutter below the windscreen? You can often get a leaf or dirt blocking it then being dislodged.

Could it be aircon condensate?

Had the aircon been on?

Are you sure the puddle was from your Bongo???....could it have already been there when you parked up?

Was the bongo parked at a jaunty angle before the trip? We had a bit of a scare with DBO's bongo just the other day.. .water was weeing out of one side after a long hot run! The water was completlely clear though, aircon hadn't been on... The bongo had been parked up on a slight incline at the bash where numerous downpours occured, then parked up again on an angled camber after a run... It was rainwater that had collected then drained... Drainholes due to be checked. There was a fair amount of water too!

The rain water from the scuttle in front of the wipers discharges round about where you describe.

This has freaked me out in the past, notably about half an hour before I was due to drive onto a ferry!

HI All,

I think the drain hole in the centre of the bonnet is to blame, i checked it and it was blocked at the top so most likely was blocked somewhere else and then dumped the water just to scare me :)

BDC you would not believe how pampered that van is, but on the same hand used to its full - taking me and 3 other to the lakes this weekend so will be covered in mud etc

Thanks for all the posts, i'll keep a close eye on it etc but i'm 99% sure it was that drain tube.

Cheers,
Mike.

Thats spooky, I saw exactly the same under mine on the drive yesterday, i was underneath on a bit of plastic faster than an MP chasing expenses!
I have also concluded the drain hole as no loss or whatever.........you are not alone!

I keep a cable tie in my glove box so I can clear the drain hole from time to time  (I don't think I am alone in doing that) It stops the build up of crud and ponding in the chanel. :D
