Hi all,
Our Bongo has pretty much always had a wobble through the steering wheel.
On the motorway as you get to 72 MPH, its at its worst.
It's never come up with anything on a MOT (thinking wheel bearing...), but then again theres no road test.
Has anyone else had this problem?

Re: Wheel wobble
Yes, I have. It went away when I had new tyres so I think it was just a wheel out of balance. It is still there but almost undetectable. Previously I just avoided that speed.Stinch wrote:Hi all,

Re: Wheel wobble
Hi,
Do you have alloys on your Bongo? I replaced my original steel rims with some mitsubishi alloys as a direct fit (from an Outlander) from some joker off ebay - turns out one was slightly bent and gave me quite a vibration. It was about 65-75 that the wobbles were at the worst.
Even if you do have un-bent alloys it may be that you need a spigot-ring spacer between the hub and the rims.. failing that if you dont have alloys it could be a badly balanced steel wheel - have you tried swapping the wheels around i.e. put one from the rear onto the front and then see if you still have the wobbles? My ultra-wobbly alloy was luckily on the back so it didnt affect the steering too much.. but oddly enough I've just had to replaced the rear bearing..
cheers,
Steve

Re: Wheel wobble
Firstly have your wheels balanced, make sure you have a spigot ring on the hub, and make sure you have the correct nuts for your wheel.
I had my wheels balanced four times trying to solve the steering wheel wobble (brand new tyres) it turned out to be the wrong nuts holding the wheel on the bongo.
I had put the same steel wheel nuts back on when I fitted the alloys, WRONG
.gotta be the right nuts for the alloys rims.

Lost without my Bongo.

Re: Wheel wobble
cool thanks guys,
I'll swap the wheels front to back and see how that goes.
If no joy then look at me nuts.
Ive never seen these wheels on a Bongo before so might be there not an exact fit on the hub?
Thanks again
Neal

Re: Wheel wobble
Wheel wobble around 55mph is front wheel balance and around 70mph is rear wheel balance.
If you find the inception speed drops then that is your answer (hopefully).
