rear wiper arm

Need to remove rear wiper arm & reluctant to do if possible to damage spindle. Is there a recommended way to remove safely? JD Leicester.

I could tell you how i do mine...!? remove the wiper arm cap... Loosen the nut on the spline to the top, so there s a gap between the nut & the wiper that probably sits tight on the spindle...

Take a set of mole grips like this & a rag..

Hook with the rag to protect from scratching the top jaw of the grip under the edge of the arm on the spline, & the bottom jaw over the top of the spindle, then squeeze the jaws together...
The arm will move up the spindle & loosen...! If the nut is fully removed the arm may jump clean off!
But wrap the cloth/rag around where the jaws grip or it will rip the paint off the end of the arm...?! It will protect the coachwork on the tailgate too!

What's happening is pressure is exerted the towards you towards the end of the spline/spindle & not tugging at the wiper mechanism behind the tailgate panel...

a drop of penetrating oil over the end of the spindle and a (very) gentle tap around the end of the casting (to avoid damaging either arm or spindle) with either a soft face hammer or piece of wood etc to break the usual bond between the dissimilar metals. normally works for me.

I use one of these.... http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... misc-tools but then I don't just have just the odd wiper arm to remove.....and I guess coz not all the motors are mine, I use the right tool for the job.... Jaylee's is a method that is effective and does the same job as the above tool.....
