Clunk Noise from Front Passenger Corner ?

Post by tonnee » Thu Jul 21, 2011 3:23 pm

jus noticed an intermittent Clunk noise from front passenger corner of the Bongo when cornering, doesnt do it evertime and is quiet while driving straight, its just a single clunk whether turning right or left.

Been into the local garage and they can hear it but cannot find anything that may be causing it, they said it sounds just like a broken suspension spring but they are fine?

Any Ideas?

Cheers

Droplinks or antiroll bar bushes/brackets would be first suspects, common issue (a search will reveal LOADS of threads), very difficult to trace the noise when stationary in the early stages, easy enough to replace if it's that, best to replace in pairs & personally I'd replace the lot while you're at it, soak the nuts in decent penetrating oil at least 24 hours before, they can be stubborn. Could also be wishbone bushes I guess.
Get someone to rock the bongo while holding onto the parts underneath (being careful elf & safetywise of course) you should be able to "feel" the noise/movement/vibration of the failing part. http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Well after the garage saying they couldnt find anything causing the clunk I wasnt happy so decided to look further into it and after a lot of pushing and pulling on things I think I have found the problem !

The Leisure Battery isnt secured to the battery tray  quick temp fix of a bungee strap and the clunk appears to have stopped, I hate it when people do half a job :x

Just need a fixing bracket now, another thing for the Bongo List of things to get, its growing by the minute :)
