Bulb Sizes

Post by maxmataz » Tue Jul 05, 2011 9:31 am

Now don't moan at me i did do a search & I found a topic on this however it never answered the question, apart from get a kit from the Bongo shop.
I don't have enough time for that & off across the waters in a few days. I do have the spare headlights :) :) :)
But what size are the indicators, reverse & back lights.
I do have a car spares shop down the road but would our Bongo be in their books & god forbid someone giving me the wrong one's so just want to make sure from the creme de la creme of all things Bongo.

Hi - I posted all the sizes a year or two ago, but the post seems to have been pruned. (I would have thought that this would have been a useful thread to keep on the forum). Anyway, here they are:

Headlights - H4 (Halfords 472)
Front Sidelights - W5W (Halfords 501)
Front Indicators - PY21W (Halfords 581)
Rear Indicators - PY21W (Halfords 581)
Rear/Stop - P21/5W (Halfords 380)
Reversing Light - P21W (Halfords 382)
Rear fog light - in my case is P21W (Halfords 382) painted red!

I only put the Halfords part no in for clarity. Cheaper elsewhere of course :D

Thanks for posting this again. :D Unfortunately some older posts did get deleted by mistake. I've now posted your bulb list in the 'FAQ' ON THIS LINK
If anyone has any more bulb info to add, let us know and we'll keep it updated.

Nice one Lorna! Dvisor, now all we need is a bulb database for the rare Japanese spec bulbs housed in the rear lights of the new shape (post 99) bongo! :D I must have 5 slips of paper knocking about somewhere with the bulb specs jotted down... Can i find them?

If this post does happen to remain, and it crops up in a future search... The only bulb in the rear clusters of the "new shape" bongo (post 99) is the rear indicator bulbs (standard bulbs) all the other bulbs are odd wedge type bulbs common to Japan, but generally not stocked here in the UK (unless you drop lucky) :? The only other rear bulbs easily available are the double tailight bulbs which are standard wedge type bulbs as found in Euro sidelights.

Ste, I Just saw your post and asked Allan about the wedge shaped bulbs. He said he thinks he can get all the bulbs for the later shape Bongo. When he has 2 minutes, he will look up the part number details etc, and we can add them to the FAQ. They're not expensive either. :)

I've just found that the bulb kit left in our Bongo by the previous owner contained all the wrong bulbs for the rear. I've just bought these: -

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... OU:GB:1123

and these for the converted reversing lamp / fog lamp : -

On the subject of bulbs I recently took the rear cabin light tube out to identify it as it has never given more than a feeble glow and was black at the ends. I stuck it back in the other way round and it lit up as bright as you like. I am sure it is only a temporary respite but might help someone through the night one day!

I think I know the reasons for this effect.

I'm guessing that because it is a DC fluorescent lamp, either the anode or the cathode gets dirty over it's life and when you reverse it you swap the anode and cathode round?

I think the T10 Wedge is the same as Front Sidelights - W5W (Halfords 501)? If so, the list (pre 99) is now:

Headlights - H4 (Halfords 472)
Front Sidelights - W5W (Halfords 501)
Numberplate - W5W (Halfords 501)
Front Indicators - PY21W (Halfords 581)
Rear Indicators - PY21W (Halfords 581)
Rear/Stop - P21/5W (Halfords 380)
Reversing Light - P21W (Halfords 382)
Rear fog light - in my case is P21W (Halfords 382) painted red!

The denotations..... 472/501/581/380/382 are all EU types and easily purchased from Motor factors at a fraction of the price of Halfrauds..... Thanks to Dvisor for publishing the numbers.... I buy 'em in boxes of 10....for the price of 1 bulbd in Halfrauds...
