Re: mason alarm
....thought I'd add that if the sensor switch is duff (or wiring from it to the ECU), then the fans will never operate, so check the switch is working.

Re: mason alarm
Fan switches are the most annoying thing for a mechanic........most modern car issues are solved with a new switch.........as it controls....fuel/sparks/Air con......on many modern engines....
A lot of 80's/90's motors have several ECU's for the above now they are in a single unit......if they fail I replace or send for re man.....
With my Bongo.....I just replaced the fan switch so I know when a new one was fitted ....and it works...

Re: mason alarm
just in case ...where did you get the new fan switch and approx price , me thinks regardless it may be a good preventative measure as you suggest.

@ £40 - http://www.mazdabongo.com/display.products.php?pId=545 but it's not a 5 minute job, as you're breaking into the cooling system, so you'll need to drain the coolant down to that level, then refill after you've done it (being very careful not to break or cross thread the new sender due to the location beeing awkward & having to use a deep socket to fit it) & make sure it's bled properly. If you're doing that & you're unsure of the age of your stat, coolant & waterpump, it's a good opportunity to replace all 3 along with a bloody good flush of the system.
On the other hand, if the switch is working right, which is easily testable, peronally I'd leave well alone unless it's time for a cooling system service

Re: mason alarm
Yup, but it doesn't state operating values or manufacturing tolerances
As with the thermostats & other parts, cheaper alternatives are available but don't necessarily operate at the same values, or last very long, just a heads upThis part is equivalent to the following manufacturers and their part numbers and is included for reference

Sorry you have me a bit confused here, are you saying that this transmitter/sender will not do the job that it is designed for,and is not suitable for a Mazda Bongo 2.5 td vehicle.
Cheers..

Re: mason alarm
I do love people that like to twist others words
I didn't say that, but as a cheaper "equivalent" part, I was questioning whether it was genuinely equivalent in it's operating values & how good the build quality MAY be. This is an important element of the cooling system & IF it does not operate as expected or IF it does not work as well or breaks after a short period of time, this could result in catastrophic damage to the engine. I think these are perfectly reasonable questions to raise, bearing in mind how cheaper equivalent parts have been known to fail prematurely.
Do you have experience of using these parts? I am no expert on the differences between various manufacturers, or who supplies who behind the scenes, maybe you have some experience in this area & can enlighten us?
I am merely playing devils advocate, I am sorry if this upsets you

Did you have another look at what was said? Personally, I can't see any ambiguity in there at all. Pattern parts are always a gamble because the original Mazda spec is somewhat 'relaxed'. Thermostat has just the same issues.
Bit like the difference between the real Corn Flakes and the Sainsbury 'look-alike'. That's why they are cheaper, and in this particular instance (fan switch) Ady did some tests and was in no doubt that there was a difference (in the samples he checked). I'm hoping he'll come on and clarify. Not trying to pick an arguement, just stating some facts.
