Adjusting handbrake
Fitted some new pads on the back yesterday and decided to clean out and adjust the handbrake while I'd got it up on axle stands and the wheels off.
Problem was turning the drum to get the hole to line up with adjuster. The van was in Neutral with both rear wheels off so I thought they would turn easily but no. Eventually managed to turn them enough, only needed a bit, using a bar on the wheel studs but surely there must be a better way
Why wont the wheels turn easily when both off the ground? Its a 4WD with an LSD on the back.
Had the same at front later when I had the wheels off just to check things.

Re: Adjusting handbrake
if you wish to turn 1 wheel you will have to lift 1 front, and 1 rear if its a 4wd(unless you turn the wheel really slowly,if you try to turn it fast it will lock up the t/converter as it should.
it is very unusuall to have a 4wd and limited slip, are you sure of this brian.

Hi Ady.
Thanks for that. Thought it might be something to do with the LSD but not had the problem before on cars with LSDs
Well I'm going on the fact that its a 2001 year and I was under the impression that they all had LSDs after about 2000.
I'll get the VIN and put it into the Russian site and check.
Just had a quick crawl under and the diff has a yellow sticker saying LSD.

Re: Adjusting handbrake
its a first for me that one bri,4wdrive and a limited s/d.
jack both back wheels up and one front. turn the rear wheel, if the other rear wheel turns the same way its lsd,if it turns the opposite way its not lsd.
the front wheel up is just to allow the 4wd to drive through the transfer,if its down it will lock up the drive/transfer box and lock up the back wheels unless done really slowly with little effort/force.
look on the internet for testing the tranferbox, there are some good videos on there.

Re: Adjusting handbrake
If you're turning a rear wheel by hand you may not get it fast enough to make the LSD work
so the opposite wheel may still turn the opposite way. I'd trust the sticker I think.
Try doing some doughnuts in your local supermarket carpark and see if you get loads of inside wheel spin
