Who knows what NGK Glow Plug part number?

It is NOT that simple here in Canuk Land; does anyone have a number for the prefered NGK Glow Plug?

I got to tell you that this BongoBugger is really starting to p*ss me off royally!

Every week it is something new to fix and NO PARTS WITHIN 10,000 MILES.... very frustrating!!!

I now find that both the Electrical CDROM and the UN-Friendee Service Manual [excuse the pun] to be virtually useless. Where can I find some specifications on the Beast?

So, I am turning to you folks in the UK because I have spent so many hours online trying to find cross referenced parts and getting no where.

The UK supplier I used for the Head replacement sent me a fresh set labeled NKT P2 30 Q 11v on the glow itself. Now I have 3/4 old ones which may get the Beast running so I don't have to push it away from blocking my driveway and use my pick up truck for the interim. This is killing me; I have 8 fresh HP Desktop PCs and Monitors to pickup tomorrow morning w/o the use of the Bongo.

MissFIXIT, Hayden, or Nigel, or a host of other knowledgeable bongobuds - can you come to my aid once more! Please and thankyou!

Last night while I was in much peril to resolve quickly, I ran to our 100 store large supplier and using their specification books on both NGK & Bosch, we knew that the NGK would be a Y-701 series plug and 4 digit number. Narrowing the list a only 11v items, they could supply Y-701RS plugs, but I don't remember a 701J option in the book.

Furthermore, the Bosch book supported an 11v item, 83mm, part number 80020. One of their close stores to me has 16 in stock. In about 15min they will open and I plan to be there matching them up.

Also, I will be prudent here and order the NGK's and other parts from either the UK or local if available.

BTW: I purchased a brand BWD GPR4 Glow Relay which is identical to the NGK G73SV unit on the Bongo. In the Standard Motors brand this crosses to a RY-54.

I'll post up my results sometime later today! Again, thanks for the info because I am all alone here to figure things out. Any degree of time savings is much appreciated. Also, while I did search this site, I didn't end up finding those links until now!

Well guess what folks... Who knows what GPs work with Bongos? I do!
I purchased a set of Bosch #80020 [11v, 83mm, 12mm Hex Head, Thread = M10x1.25] which work beautifully!
I installed them this morning while cold, tested each one prior to placement using the supply lead wire directly connected and grounded on the threads against the intake manifold. Then turn the key because I want to hear the relay click off which it did at 14 seconds. The glows burned brightly at the tip after 4 seconds approximately in sync with the dash light [which as Hayden points out is NOT even on the glow circuit.. dah!]

The engine started first click of the starter within a second... just boom and it's running better than ever! Absolutely no smoke whatsoever even immediately after ignition.

I did do a thorough testing of each wire involved starting at the positive post of the battery. The fuseable link was tested fine also. My original relay probably blew out all four glows, the new set from NKT PZ-39's from Peer Parts in London. They are Japanese made though!

I would venture to say that anything Bosch builds is rock solid compared to many other brands. We have Bosch everything here in Canada, even their tool line is amongst the best! So, having said that, has anyone had a bad affair with Bosch products?

Incidently, the Bosch 80020 glows cost me $27/pc CAD NET before HST [our form of VAT here!], or over $45 CAD each. So, my jobber price level saved me some money, that is far better than depending on a UK supplier which worked out to $84.15 CAD + VAT + shipping + HST + Import Duty + my first born!

In closing, I ask myself... Why am I driving a Bongo anyway? Because it feels so good when it is running right?
