I think they are also known as 501 or W5W...

The same bulb under the LSDNRP drive selector strip too, while on the subject... http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

Though the housing under the shift is bigger & there is a couple of ventilation holes in the bottom, the filament bulb here can get hot too! (Personally i think this don't help the selector strip with regards to the cracking either?)

The life of LEDs should make it fit and forget too. :) I lost the little green prism for a bit as my ashtray was cracked and that light is bloody bright without it!

My experience with the leds is the red sort of domed defused type are not so bright.. It may be less of a dazzle/distraction without the prism!? (Part 64-622.) http://lushprojects.com/bongopartsmk2/c ... mgno=.html

I got a set similar to these for most of my interior including the cab courtesy lights..

The base tends to indicate bulb colour...

I just got a cheap batch of white ones..

2x on the rear numberplate
2x for the dome
1X ashtray
1x gear selector
2x left over for the side lights (Yep why not?) :wink:

& i put 3 red ones behind the clocks to back light the yellow needles..

I've only ever seen them without the base, for soldering. LEDs have come one hell of a way since I used to do electronics projects!
I will have to get up to date. I have got some GU10 ones in the house as bedside reading lamps and they are brilliant.

The do burn a lot cooler... (Burn maybe the wrong term.) The original filament bulb under the ashtray on mine though still working, was kind of clouded/smoked on the outside (from what i can only assume) the heat from an enclosed space in the housing...
