No 12volt output from Cigar lighters

Post by M&K » Mon Aug 15, 2011 9:46 pm

After plugging a faulty water pump (not known at the time) into the cigarette lighter ( both of them tried ) both are now
dead i.e no 12v output , I have tested the number 8 15a fuse and it's ok, The Bongo is a 2.5D 1995 model. Looking at the wireing diagram ( I think its the correct one) it appears to be a simple cct, could anyone give me a starter for ten on where the problem may lay.s

Cheers
Mike.

Some of the sockets have fuses built into the back of them, between the tags. You need to extract the sockets, usually a push from the rear helps and inspect the tags, you will possibly find a melted area of solder like material - as the circuits are fused your safe to link out the built in fuse with wire.

Don't forget you need to have the key turned to 'Accessories' or 'Ignition' to have power to the sockets.
Take a torch, toilet roll, and tea bags.

Unless it's been wired into a leisure battery?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

The wiring itself may have melted, it's not the beefiest.

Hi Jeff,
The problem turns out to be the fuse like cct on the back of the Cigar lighter as you suggested, thanks for that,
and thanks to all who respoded.

Cheers
Mike.

I have the same problem #-o After loads of reading and testing fuses. I've ended up taking the lighter out, wasn't easy.

Anyway it's out and the fuse on the lighter looks OK, there's no burnt or broken bit on the fuse. How do I test the fuse on the back of the lighter? I've NO volt meter, I borrowed one from a mate this afternoon.

Can I buy a replacement lighter and try it? If so, what lighter should I buy?

I no nothing about cars or Bongo's  I'm learning tho, haven't read so much since I left school
