Mileage

Post by Dean from Sheppey » Thu Aug 18, 2011 11:48 am

Can someone clear this up for me?
I bought my Bongo with 100,000 on the clock. The speedo is then chipped to make it show MPH, and now shows 107,000

321 Away said they don't alter the mileage, and neither does the chipping process.

As 100,000km equates to 60,000 miles, this means the vehicle has done 77,000 miles...does this sound right?...I'm needing to sell it and want to get the mileage right for the ad

Cheers

6/10 is very rough, 5/8 is closer, Google is exact:

http://www.google.com/search?q=107000+k ... =firefox-a

66 486.7176

in case the link doesn't work, you just type 107000 km in miles into Google and the first result which should be in bold is the answer. It works for most conversions too.

67,000 miles would be correct...not 77,000

100,000 kms = 62,140 miles
62,140 + 7,000 = 69,140 miles in total.

I'm with Haydn on this - the original reading of 100000 equals 62,140 miles.

Once the chip is added, this affects the pulse rate coming into the speedo, so the speed and odometer now count in MPH / miles, so the additional 7000 is miles.

Only on the units where the face has had a corrective sticker fitted, instead of a chip, do the speeds read MPH and the odo read KM.

Absolutely spot on , mine was chipped so then recorded miles , i then took chip out as it was causing problems with gearbox due to one of wires being not connected. i now have three different readings to add up to get miles covered [ original kms at import + 2 years of miles when chipped + kms since ] . To be fair it doesn't concern me at all i only keep a record for if i want to sell it.

Thanks everyone. I thought that must be the case as no one would sit there and 'clock' it just to get a correct reading

Mine is chipped but the odo still counts kms, I have checked it against the driver location signs on the motorway which are 500M apart and it hits the same last dig it every second sign.

I know there are about three ways of converting the speedo but the above is an easy way to check.

Edit

maybe mine has just had the face change?

I'm having a bad day today, sorry

Mine was - KM's were corrected to miles when imported and the chip added and that was confirmed as correct by the previous owner who had had it since it was imported.
So my total is correct in miles and is currently 151,000miles.

The trouble you may have is that if you have had an MOT since the chip was added your total kilometrage+mileage will have been recorded on the computer as miles and so far as I know they are loathe to change it.
