Fan switch

Post by diggs31 » Thu Aug 18, 2011 9:53 pm

Hey all, I was wonderin if anyone has fitted a radiator fan bypass switch? My bongo, when going up hills sometimes runs pretty warm and the fan seems to take ages to cut in, iv got a Mason alarm fitted but thought about wiring the fan so I can turn it on before it starts getting too warm. Is this a good idea and has anyone done it ?

Switching on your ac should switch your rad fans on. How warm is it getting? have you modified your temp gauge to read something useful or fitted a seperate temp gauge?
You can't polish a turd - but you can roll it in glitter.

Doesn't the mason alter temp gauge to a more useful reading?

I haven't modified the temp guage, it shoots right up on drawn out hills, and im sure the fan doesn't kick in although it is working.

Yes you have if its got a mason on it  , how far does it go on the scale? Fans should kick in & drag it back down before it gets to the end of the scale.
The thing to bear in mind is, if the thermostat is not open, it isn't putting full flow through the rad, so it won't make any difference if the fans are switched on.

I see, I didnt realise the Mason alarm altered the guage. Well its definaltely getting up near the top end of the scale, do I need to check the thermostat?

If it's not been changed in your ownership, it may be due a change, it's the vital component that controls the coolant temp along with the rad. If you do, I & many others would recommend going for a mazda original, rather than a blueprint or any other copy. good opportunity to flush & change the coolant too. Just make sure you know how to bleed it, or the garage doing the work know how to bleed it.
