Hi. I am in Greece now.
I have full Japan manual, and all about 1345 here (in my with Google translation):
Service code 1345 - Signal line SGC (camshaft position sensor).
Detail - If no signal is input from the camshaft position sensor SGC between two engine speed
Possible Causes - Harness between the ignition switch - the distributor cam shaft position sensor failure, broken wire connectors, terminals harness - Camshaft position sensor ECU 4G terminal short circuit, broken wire connector
1: Joint state of the camshaft position sensor and the ECU connector, pin or mating normal state
If yes go to next if no, replace sensor.
2: Disconnect the connector on the camshaft position sensor and while the IG switch ON, check battery voltage on A harness connector terminal
If yes go to next if no, inspect the connector.
3: Check continuity between terminals on the harness side D ~ ECU 4G harness connector terminals
If yes go to next if no, repair or replace.
4: Voltage at the ECU 4G normal?
If yes go to 6 step if no, go to next.
5: Camshaft position sensor normal?
If yes go to next step if no, replacing the distributor.
6: Disconnect battery (-) terminal with 20 seconds and depress the brake pedal, then you make a re-inspection or service code appears
If yes replacing the ECU if no, check harness, temporary poor contact of the connector (when the frequencies are high, repair, replace)

So looking at that the cam shaft sensor is an intrical part of the distributor and not changable on its own?

As there doesn't appear to be a seperate camshaft sensor in Lushprojects diagram then I can assume the sensor is in the distributer and will be a seperate part, even though Mazda may not want to sell it as such. somebody will have supplied Mazda the part and it will be available somewhere - it's almost certainly a "Hall" effect sensor - commonly used in lots of systems of that era.westonwarrior wrote:So looking at that the cam shaft sensor is an intrical part of the distributor and not changable on its own?
BTW, we went back to the same beach this Easter too - equally stunning weather.............

Its shown as part of the distributor in the wiring diagrams B4-18;

Might be worth checking the connector is OK, before replacing it ?

Hi thanks again for all the input. Getting a wee bit techie for me, but I'll pass on the info to the garage, if they're still speaking to me, on Monday.

Hi,
thanks to all for the advice. Eventually gave up with my local garage. Contacted Bill Convery at Campercraft in Kirkcaldy, and within no time, I'm back on the road.
Bill is an absolute star. I can't thank him enough. I had the bongo transported through to Bill and around a week later he'd confirmed that it was a faulty distributor, and replaced same. She's running like a dream again. If only I'd gone to him a few months ago I'd have saved myself a lot of anguish.
For those of you who don't know Bill, I'd thoroughly recommend him for any work relating to Bongos. He's an enthusiast and a lovely guy, and nothing is too much trouble. If you're reading this, thanks again Bill, see you in November for my service.

Just back from picking my Bongo up from Bill, I'm sure you saw it, he was converting it for me. I can't agree with you more, Bill is a star, and he will go to any lengths to help you.
I left the conversion to him, told him what I wanted, and he did it, and MORE
He fitted 2 seat belts for nowt, hook up cable for nowt, he flushed my engine out, again no charge.
Bill and wee Anne Marie both love their Bongo's. I wont take my Bongo anywhere else
I figured out that Bill had probably done over £250 extra work and didn't charge me. I wanted to pay for the work, he would not take a penny, I begged him to take at least £100, no
He wasn't having any of it
Don't know about the handsome bit tho
